About
What is ShareBraille.org?
ShareBraille.org is a free service from the American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults that facilitates the exchange of Braille books through an online community-run library.
Our Mission
The mission of ShareBraille.org is to promote literacy among the blind by increasing the use and life of Braille materials. Braille is critical to the success of blind people. Important information such as syntax, spelling, and structure cannot be learned when using recorded books or computer driven speech. In school, work, and leisure, Braille is the only true means of literacy for the blind.
How Does It Work?
ShareBraille.org works by connecting those who want Braille books with those who want to give Braille books away. After you register and log in, you can share your own Braille books or browse our growing catalog. If a user requests a book that you've offered to share, it can be shipped at no cost within the United States and Canada using Free Matter for the Blind.
Braille Book Fair
If you decide not to add your Braille books to ShareBraille.org's online library, you may be able to donate them to the Braille Book Fair which takes place at the National Federation of the Blind’s National Convention. The Braille Book Fair is a highly anticipated, once-a-year event. To donate individual books to the Braille Book Fair, you can use this website. If you are sending more than three boxes of Braille books, please email us at sharebraille@actionfund.org with a list of the items prior to shipment, and then please ship them to Braille Book Fair, National Federation of the Blind, 200 East Wells Street at Jernigan Place, Baltimore, MD 21230.
